Galleria Uusitalo presents 5 young artistsOne of Finland’s leading contemporary art spaces Galleria Uusitalo is celebrated for the high standard of work it presents and for its cooperation with artists whose work is seen as challenging norms. At Berliner Liste 08 Galleria Uusitalo presents work by 5 of its most accomplished upcoming artists; painters Juha Hälikkä, Sari Tenni, Sampsa Sarparanta and Tuomo Rosenlund and photographer Harri Pälviranta.Critic Otso Kantokorpi recently wrote that painter Juha Hälikkä is as interested in the images of popular culture as he is in the history of painting in all its richness. Hälikkä might find his ideas in an advertisement in a women’s magazine where “the bourgeoisie have turned up the volume to the maximum” or from Caravaggio’s paintings or in shiny engine parts. Hälikkä samples pictures in his paintings, but his work is not simply contemporary collage, rather he builds a range of deeper and more complex fields of meaning, which are bound together by the act of painting. | |
